The enjoyment of writing has always been a part of my life. For years my mother kept samples of essays I’d written for school, the local newspaper, or just for fun. Most vacations ended with a short essay of the fun. Two specific essays stand out from those early years. There was a contest in the local newspaper to write a piece about the movie, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” That one won me a $100 prize and possibly launched my career. Well, at least my interest in writing. The second piece was a long detail about an ocean-going trip our family embarked on. Each day I would write my observations.
